Helping your child on their journey from high school to adult life can bring many challenges and rewards. The earlier you begin transition planning the better. Transition planning includes your child's goals for working, learning, and living once they leave high school. The process is based on their needs and should consider their strengths, preferences, and interests. You should also consider what supports and accommodations your child might need at their job, school, home, or community. There are many parent groups that can provide support as well. The Parent Educator Resource Centers or PERCs provide training and information related to education advocacy, issues, community services, and transition planning.

FAST provides advocacy to West Virginia families who have school-aged children with special education needs.
The FAST Program (Family Advocacy, Support, and Training) is a statewide parent and youth network that engages families in the planning, management and evaluation of their child’s mental health treatment and service needs. FAST has four regional advocates, an attorney, and a statewide resource specialist and serves all 55 West Virginia counties.
